Our worship
True Light has a lot of economic, racial, and cultural diversity, which is something rare and precious about us. This diversity adds a wide variety of influences to our worship. Our music is sometimes led by cello, piano, and guitar and other times is simply clapping and singing--often both of these are within the same service. Worship will include songs typical of African American church traditions like "Can't Nobody" as well as classical hymns such as "How Great Thou Art." Sometimes, there might be impromptu prayer over an individual or family as the need so presents itself and the Spirit leads.
Strong emphasis is placed upon authenticity in worship, as well as giving the community the chance to rejoice and mourn with members of the congregation. These are most vividly seen in the weekly testimony time.
While there is no strict structure to which every service conformes, here is the general order of a service that you can expect:
- Call to worship (typically a song)
- Introductory Psalm reading and prayer
- Worship in song
- Testimonies
- Prayer
- Sermon
- Communion (served weekly)
- Offering
- Benediction and affirmation song
- Fellowship meal for all present in church
Worship typically begins at 11:30 on Sunday mornings and flows into a fellowship meal served afterwards. This meal is served at no cost, and all are encouraged to stay, eat, and get to know each other a little better.
There is no expected attire at True Light. You can feel just as comfortable in a suit as you do a t-shirt, a dress or in jeans. Come as you are and be a part of our worship.
